Completed 2009

CEI completed a variety of services for the construction of this 56,600-GSF clinic, which achieved a LEED Gold rating and won the USGBC Maryland 2009 Award of Excellence for New Construction Project of the Year.  Located in downtown Baltimore, the Health Care for the Homeless facility was constructed on a surface parking lot and features an environmentally sound green roof for runoff reduction.  Partially located within the 100-year floodplain, the site also required designs for water-efficient landscaping and site restoration.

The facility consists of concrete superstructure, composite steel framing, and lateral masonry shear walls.  In order to avoid impacting a large storm drain culvert, our structural engineers designed a deep foundation system 3 feet in diameter.  Our structural team also prepared designs for a 40-foot metal ADA accessible ramp, located on the exterior of the building.  CEI also prepared stormwater management plans to reduce site runoff by 25 percent.  Designs also included a Developer’s Agreement, utilities, and site restoration with native plantings.  Site development plans maximized open space, and CEI provided landscaping plans to cover more than 50 percent of the site area with vegetation.
