48,600 SF

Completed 2013

CEI provided structural engineering services to build a new, 48,600-SF wellness and residence building in the Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community, which provides retirement housing and senior care facilities.  The 4-story addition includes a natatorium, fitness center, classrooms, a walking track, support spaces, and residential units.  Additional designs included wood floor trusses, wood beams and posts, masonry stair, elevators precast and steel angle lintels, and connections.

The building is founded on shallow spread footings with cast-in-place reinforced concrete retaining walls.  The framing system throughout the building consists of gypcrete cementitious topping poured over tongue and groove exposure structural use sheathing supported by wood trusses.   The natatorium, which is housed in the basement, features a laminated tongue and grooved wood decking roof structure.  On the first floor, which houses the walking track, our team used structural steel beams and columns to support the floor framing at the track, and we designed bearing walls to accommodate open spaces required by the floor plan.   The building’s roof framing system consists of structural use sheathing supported by pre-engineered wood trusses.
