Maryland

Completed 2015

Beginning in 2012, the State Highway Administration undertook a mapping project to update utility locations at their facilities for future upgrade and expansion projects. CEI provided civil engineering services to produce updated plans and maps for SHA use.  The project incorporated Districts 1 and 6, including 27 SHA facilities in 7 Maryland counties.  District 1 facilities, which included district headquarters in Salisbury, were located in Dorchester, Wicomico, Worchester and Somerset counties; District 6 facilities were located in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties and included the district headquarters at LaVale.

Carroll Engineering conducted a preliminary field survey of all site improvements and obtained GIS mapping for each site from SHA.  During the site walk-through, our team used ground penetrating radar and electromagnetic tracking to locate existing utilities.  All noted changes were red-marked on the existing plans.  Throughout the project, our team continued to perform site visits and surveys to verify utility mark location and track site improvement work.  CEI prepared base sheets for each site and created color-coded maps for all utilities, including electric, water, sewer, gas, communication and storm pipes.
