3.3 acres

Completed 2015

LEED Gold

Waverly Elementary School is located on a 3.3-acre urban site in northeastern Baltimore City.  Opened in 2014, the 133,000-SF replacement facility is the city’s first newly constructed school building since 1998.  For this project, CEI acted as Civil Engineer, completing a variety of site  designs, including coordination with Baltimore City for stormwater management, erosion/sediment control, and permitting.  The first phase of the project included designs for the new school, located on the facility’s western recreational field.  Later phases will include demolition of the existing school and construction of a new recreational field.

Our civil team completed stormwater management plans to satisfy current Baltimore City environmental regulations.  Designs included a series of ground surface rain gardens and swales, which lead to individual storm drains that pipe runoff to city mains along 34th Street.  Additional improvements included tot-lots, a service drive leading to below-grade parking, walkways, utility service upgrades, grading, and associated landscaping designs for site furniture, tree conservation, and exterior plantings.  In addition, CEI is currently preparing LEED documentation per USGBC standards to achieve a LEED Gold rating.
